What I liked
staff on childrens ward, were empathic and understanding, and helpful
What could be improved
Triage at A&E could have been more proffesional ,instead of making us feel were waisting there time regarding my 3 year old grandaughter .We understood they were very busy, however, we would not have gone there if we hadn,t been concerned about my grandaughter , who during the night had had a temperature of 40c and had seen her G.P the previous day , was diagnosed with a urine infection and given anti biotics, howevere her condition had deteriorated over night,i did however ask to speak to her G.P but was unable to speak to them straight away . The receptionist at the doctors surgery suggested we went to A.E if we were worried which is what we did. We were made to feel like we were being neurotic by the triage person and that all children get high temperatures when they are ill and was told that anti-biotics dont work straight away. To cut a long story short my grandaughter was seen by a very nice doctor who took blood samples, eventually a pediatrician came to see her,her blood samples came back as showing a very high infection She was then admitted to the childrens ward where they promptly gave her itravenous anti-biotics. My reason for relaying this is that: Small children cannot necesserally explain what is wrong, and a high temperature that has been going on for 2-3days and not wanting to drink or eat is telling you something .I am an experienced mother and grandmother and know full well when a child is ill.I realize A.E get very busy and the staff are doing a good job and would not go there unless i thought it urgent and in this particular case it was .
Thanks to all on the Childrens Ward.
