"Fetal medicine unit"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

Despite working for the NHS In another trust for 10 years I have never come across such fantastic interprofessional working.

We arrived at St George's after a five hour drive, tired and anxious. We was greeted with friendly smile form the receptionist who said she was expecting us. We was then introduced to two doctors who instantly made us feel reassured. We wa scanned and results explained. They then explained the procedure which we needed to try safe our babies and discussed the risks. Their manner was very friendly and although the risk involved was serious he was very optimistic.

Unlike a consultant at my own hospital who had previously told us to terminate the pregnancy as the condition would cause life long issues.

With surgery scheduled for the following day, we was initially told they would try and help us find accommodation.

Next we was introduced to a lovely MSW who's name I haven't got. And then introduced to the midwife who would be looking after us and attending surgery with us. The midwife was wonderful so kind and caring and nothing was too much trouble ,showing us round introducing the staff and finding us a room.

The day of surgery we no longer felt anxious, every single staff member we had come across had been professional caring and reassuring. Nothing more then what we could of asked for.

The surgeon was reassuring throughout explaining what was happening and checking I was ok as I was in abit of discomfort. The midwife was a fantastic support for my husband and another member of staff was also explaining what we could see on the screens which we will never forget . Back on the Carmen ward the nurse looked after us and made sure I was comfortable. Later on we was scanned again and both babies had survived and we was allowed home.

We knew the risks of the surgery and we knew the team we had looking after us gave such amazing care that we could never ask for more, so knew whatever the outcome the girls had received the best care possible and we would always be grateful for that. To be told the babies had survived was the most precious moment we wilL never forget. We have already had a son die previously so we was very scared .

We have a long way to go yet and are aware that we face many risks, but truly believe without the care we received at St George's we wouldn't have an ongoing pregnancy.

The team was amazing , there's plenty of people I have missed out, I'm sure, but we will forever be grateful to each and every person who was involved in our care.

The staff are professional caring compassionate valued individuals and such a credit to your trust. We can never thank them enough and despite a long journey home yesterday we knew we had to leave this review.

We hope all will be recognised and appreciated for the wonderful care they have given us.

People are quick to moan about the NHS but we can do nothing but praise the care we had, your staff was amazing.
