"Upsetting Delivery of my Still Born Son"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

(as the patient),

This describes the horrific experience I had during the delivery of my still born son.

The midwife had only been qualified for six months, despite me being determined as high risk. The midwife & doctor argued whilst I was in delivery. I contracted an infection whilst in labour - and no antibiotics were offered.

I was not told my son had died during delivery, as they failed to monitor his heart beat effectively.

My baby was delivered horrifically by Forceps & was given to me, even though he had passed away. I believe this wasted valauble time to resucitate him.

I was left bleeding for 20 mins, while they waited for a theater - I lost 2 litres of blood.

Overloading my system with fluid while I had stitches in theatre, rendered me in the HDU Dept with a Pulmonary Odema (HDU - are a fabulous team by the way - and put the disgraceful care I had in the maternity department to shame!).

I was discharged from the maternity unit, and left to self catheterise for 2 months, as they did not realise my bladder was distended, and did not realise I had a womb infection & a UTI.

I was offered no bereavement counselling regarding the death of my baby, and had to be admitted to Queens Hospital in Romford to get the treatment I needed.

My experience of the maternity department was absolutely horrific & I wouldn't wish what I have been through on anyone else!
