"Blood"

1. Opening at 0830 instead of 1730 hrs cuts out those who like to drop in on their way to work. Staff ought to start work at 0830 hrs prompt.

2. Leaving dozens of people standing outside in inclement weather is not really to be praised.

3. Agree with Dr about the low productivity of the unit, given only two and sometimes one operatives.

4. This patient funnel effect could be avoided if bleeds could be done in each GP surgery and collected twice a day along with any pee bottles. Done by doctors in their consulting rooms in Germany. This would dissipate patients away from Pellhurst, just meaning practice nurses could bleed straight after the GP request, thus saving patient time.

5. I have been visiting Swanmore and Pellhurst for some years

Thank you for posting this valuable feedback, which has been shared with the service lead. The Trust is continually looking at how to improve the services it provides and we welcome patient feedback.

In relation to the points you raised, we are very sorry but we are unable to open earlier than 8:30 which due to council restrictions at the premises, the service should start promptly at 8.30 and we are sorry if this has not occurred and this has been fed back to staff.

As already advised, the clinics and staff commence work at 8:30, however when staff arrive earlier they are able to allow people into the waiting area, and this message will be reiterated to staff again.

Unfortunately the Phlebotomists only have two chairs to see patients, and these are used to full capacity, whilst the department aims to have two staff present at all times, when staff absence occurs unexpectedly this cannot always be covered at short notice, and we are sorry if this has occurred during your attendance.

The Trust is unable to comment on GP practice services, as this is managed with the Clinical Commissioning Group, we are aware that some practices do provide blood taking sessions on the Island.

Once again thank you for your valuable feedback, and the service continues to review how it can improve Phlebotomy services.
