"Brought me through these troubled waters"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Older adults mental health

(as the patient),

I had a TVT Mesh implant in 2006. From the second day whilst still hospitalised, and witnessed by staff nurse, evidence this operation had caused serious malfunction was never addressed. Years of pleading fell on deaf ears, it was my weight from day one, while still in hospital that was to blame, everything else but not mesh.

I had my TVT Mesh partially removed in 2015. The consultant I was referred to at our first consultation brought me to tears with insults that totally floored me. I was left on no uncertain terms that my pain and other symptoms/related issues were not mesh related. The evening after my operation, this same surgeon informed me, my mesh had been twisted behind my pubic bone, so difficult, two pieces are let attached to abdomen too dangerous to remove, coupled with this information my urethra had a twist, and my right side was quite inflamed.

9 years of relentless pain/nerve pain uti’s and loss of strength in legs, screaming painful groin thigh/leg cramps/restless legs continually are but a few. I was euphoric at this outcome; vindicated that all my pain was not in my mind but real and not caused by obesity as I was continually told.

I left this hospital with the most severe incontinence. I went from pillar to post for help with incontinence products, my GP would not help. Two months in had emergency uro dynamic. Urologist explained my   urethra/pipe was gone, functionless/defunct. Yet with this evidence, I as a patient, not understanding the politics of primary and hospital trust was left battling for help as my incontinence was costing me £25 per week.  I am a pensioner, suicidal and weeping at an appointment.

A caring physio at pain clinic saw my state and sheer desperation, received emergency app with psychiatrist - a real gem within our NHS and their right hand diamond who visited twice a week to help me. Dr Lusman, and CPN Wyllie, they had such caring understanding and indeed compassion, at my time of such need. I cannot thank them enough. They have brought me through these troubled waters, witnessed my fight for incontinence products, poor GP service, and the unprofessional verbal outbursts of a  surgeon. I am here by the grace of God, and their total professional consultations. Thank you from the. Depth of my being.

Update posted by Mara Mack (the patient)

Thank you Pamela.

Dr Lusman and CPN Wyllie witnessed my attempts to get incontinence products, taking almost 18 months before The Head of Service for SPHERE and the Senior Clinician visited my home, they were distressed to say the least, actually witnessing my severe incontinence legacy within the home. I cannot thank Senior Clinician for SPHERE Incontinence Jaequeline Connelly and head of service Rhonda Agnew enough, they helped immensely in getting my delivery immediately. I must say at this point. Dr Lusman and CPN Wyllie were TOTAL PROFESSIONAL at all times, which encouraged me to persevere, now witnessing this outcome. Once again Kind Regards for your Care,
