"Blakney ward Norwich"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I had a perfect birth on the Midwifery-led Birthing Unit (MLBU) What was lovely with lovely midwifes.

But I was moved on to blakney after as my waters broke hours before my contractions started so they said it was just a precaution for a few hours as I might have infection. (Which I didn't.)
But this is where I feel I was treated like an awful mother an was kept in for 4 days it ruined my whole experience me and my partner couldn't understand why we wasn't being discharged. Others was coming and going.
I was a first time mum but my pregnancy was great. I had no worries or concerns. But I had one midwife who wanted to see me Breast feeding but she never came when I called on my button. My partner even took a video on his phone. I even feed him in front the breastfeeding lady who came over she said she would let the midwife know he was feeding fine. But the midwife said she must of missed her.
When the midwife came in he wasn't hungry an would only feed for a short time she said she wanted to see him latched on for a minimum of 15minutes before she would discharge me. I barely saw her let alone for 15mins.
This caused me a lot of upset as I knew my baby was fine. She then said she thought he looked jaundice. He then had bloods taken at 3days old that showed very low levels that are perfectly normal. And quite common.
I felt as if I was forced to express just to show this one midwife he was feeding even though I knew he was an she still wouldn't discharge me. When I asked why she said when he is weighed I would only have to come back in as she thought he looked as if  he had lost to much weight. I was so lucky a different midwife came on shift who was lovely an let us go. The midwife who came to my home said everything was normal.

It's ruined our whole experience of bringing are baby boy home 4 days of being made to feel like rubbish parents. I told her I will also make sure he is fed breast or bottle I obviously wouldn't let him go hungry. But no matter what she was not letting us go.
I found blakney horrible dirty always blood in toilets on floor pad bins stinking. I kept of complaining about state of bathroom. It was  depressing and I found the pressure from some of the midwives awful. Looking back I wish I had just walked out as there was no need to be kept there. So what was a perfect birth was turned in to a horrible experience. I'm so angry now I look back why I aloud them to treat me like it. My baby was fit and healthy and I was absolutely fine. I believe in a mother's instinct an if I had the slighted worries I would have said something  I didn't he was perfect.
