"Inefficient and lacking in communication"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics

9 days ago my daugter smashed her ankle up and was airlifted home from Egypt. 7 days ago she arrived at QMC. She is occupying a side room because the hospital considers her short stay in an Egyptian hospital introduces a risk of cross infection to other users. She has been on starvation for a fair part of this period with poor staff communication as to whether she was on an operating list or not. It looks like she is being bumped from the list again today but at 16:30 still nobody has told her. Yesterday a nurse told her she should not be in hospital Tying up an expensive room and should have asked to go home. Earlier in the week, when she did ask to go home she was told she would be bumped to the bottom of the list and would have to wait longer. Naturally, the nurse's comment really upset her because her children are waiting at home for her return.

I’m sorry to hear that you are unhappy about your daughter’s care. I understand from the ward team that your daughter is currently in theatre undergoing treatment. It would be helpful if we could discuss your concerns further. If you wish me to do so, you can contact me on 0115 924 9924 x 62116.

Kind regards,

Caroline Wise, Matron.
