About: Whipps Cross University Hospital / Accident and emergency

Following a fall which resulted in a fractured hip my mum was taken to this unit

On my arrival my mum needed the bathroom. Given she had just broken her hip and was in severe

Discomfort. I pressed the patient call button., for more than 5 mins I remained ignored

I stood outside the cubicle with the light flashing and was ignored

By staff. My mums cubicle was opposite the nursing station

I finally stopped a doctor who directed me to a nurse who in turn asked another nurse to tend to my

Mum. The nurse said ‘not my patient and walked off’ the staff nurse called after her and said’ can you see to the patient’. She then stormed over to me.

I said that my had been waiting for ten mins and she responded to my face not my problem. I was so frustrated for my

Mum. I then said it wasn’t my proem and that either she is toilettes or she will wet the bed. At this point the nurse asked

My

Mum if she could sit up or get out of bed. I had to inform her that she had just broken her hip and that either was unlikely.

By the time a bed pan was arranged my mum had already urinated.

What a shame there is no personalisation of care at this hospital by some staff. Which gives a bad name to all! No respect for patients or relatives.
