I recently had an admission following being found in the street fitting. It was later found that I had taken a large overdose which had caused the seizures. I was then admitted to AMU where I was introduced to the well-being workers on the ward. I can not thank them enough for their time support and patience with me during my mental health crisis. They kept me going and supported me at all times. I was a patient for almost a week due to waiting for a bed on a mental health ward as I was out of area. I can’t fault the nursing staff either for their help too. Everyone was understanding and supportive. Where I live we don’t have wellbeing workers on the ward and actually having them made a difference as they have some training around supporting mental health. This also made the general nurses jobs easier as the wellbeing worker were able to advocate for me when I was overwhelmed and couldn’t communicate effectively. I would like to emphasise how much I appreciated the wellbeing workers and think more general hospitals used them!
"Massive thanks to wellbeing workers!"
