"ashley house"

About: Ashley House

(as the patient),

While visiting Ashley House today I noticed that there were leaflets from the Halton Horticultural Society advertising Day trips by coach. I laughed out loud when I read through the various day trips noticing that the very first event was a cider country in spring outing.

A great choice of trip for an alcohol / drug service to advertise. Reminds me of when AH staff openly advertised their Xmas pub crawl... Double Standards?

Thank you for your posting.

I have checked the leaflet you have referred to and I would agree that for some of the people who attend Ashley House it is possibly a little insensitive however I would point out that not all the people who use Ashley House have problems with alcohol and would enjoy such an event. An example of this would be the many carers who use the building.

We do have a procedure in place to check all the literature we use in reception but as I had not seen the leaflet before I think it might have been put in reception without discussion as such your posting has reinforced the need for us to ensure that all the leaflets we use are approved. I will therefore ensure that all staff and volunteers are made aware of the process involved before leaflets are used.

Regarding the Xmas pub crawl I am sure this was never advertised in the reception area but as with the leaflet I will ask staff that in future any such posters are sited in staff areas only.

Thanks

Phil
