"Compassionate care"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

Unfortunately my mother died in Scunthorpe General Hospital, Ward 10 last week. Before she passed away she had an MI and the ward rang us to come in to see her. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the staff, they offered us a drink. On seeing my mother although very poorly we were so pleased to see that she was in a nice clean bed, she was wearing a clean nighty and had been washed and had her hair brushed. The staff had put an electric blanket on her and she was lovely and warm. The bedspace around her was clean and the health care assistant was looking after her mouth care. We didnt know it then but this was the last time we saw my mother alive. It helps so much in the grieving process that this is how we last saw my mum, clean, warm, settled and comfortable. The staff nurse in charge gave us clear compassionate update on her condition and was approachable and respected her privacy. unfortunately I did not get the Advanced Health Care Assistants name but I would like to pass on my thanks and respect for the wonderful caring job she was doing.
