"breast feeding"

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was only asked once if I wanted to try breast feeding I tried straight after he was born and he didn't take to it is was not asked again so I decided to just try bottle feeding as I wanted to get home and was not allowed to leave unless he was feeding.

Response from Sandra Orton, Head of Midwifery Services, Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust:

Please accept my apologies that you did not receive the support and advice you needed with breastfeeding following the birth of your baby.

We are committed to providing a high standard of care to all women and are at present working towards Baby Friendly Status. This involves a coordinated approach towards all aspects of infant feeding and includes comprehensive training for all staff so they are able to give clear, consistent advice and information to all mothers and their families regarding their chosen method of feeding.

I’d be very happy to talk to you so that we can learn from your experience and improve things for other new Mums. If you would like to contact me, please phone 01283 566333 and ask for Sandra Orton, Head of Midwifery. If I am not available my PA will take a message. Or if you would prefer, please email sandra.orton@burtonh-tr.wmids.nhs.uk
