"appointments"

About: NHS Ayrshire & Arran

(as the patient),

In Kilmarnock, Portland road surgery it is impossible to get an appointment after working hours. I can leave work early and get to the surgery for 4:30 but the surgery prefers to book all appointments in the mornings. For example, I literally cannot get a smear test in this surgery as they will only do them on a Tuesday morning. Since I work for a living (and hence pay for the NHS) I can't get to the doctors at that time.

Another example is getting my son's vaccinations. I had some difficulty to even get an afternoon appointment (with a wait of several months) and then had to take an afternoon (unpaid!) off my work to attend. While I obviously value my son's health enough to do this it makes me incredibly angry as I feel that the whole system is set up to cater for those not in work.

I am very sorry that you did not receive any response to this valuable feedback when you posted this.

GP practices across NHS Ayrshire and Arran are now offering more flexible consulting times and I hope that you have been able to benefit from these. If there are still problems and you are not able to resolve these through contact with your GP practice then I would be pleased to provide you with details of colleagues who work closely with GP's on these issues.

I can be contacted at Craig.White@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Best wishes

Craig White
