"Refused pain relief as 'officially discharged'"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

C section in Lincoln Hospital.

Hospital tried to discharge patient on  a Sunday with catheter fitted. Patient refused to leave as not well and had no baby seat. out care in hospital maternity unit patchy and unthinking -- left sitting in own blood at one stage all night because no pad given. At one point refused pain relief as 'officially discharged'.

Sent home to Grantham the following day with catheter fitted. No antibiotics prescribed. Developed water infection. Had to walk in minus 6 degree weather to GP to gain prescription, no one in Grantham would remove catheter.

Asked 73 year old grandmother to drive her to Lincoln Hospital to remove catheter but most roads to Lincoln closed. Only after Grandmother and Mother contacted local press did midwife unit in Grantham send transport to take patient to Lincoln hospital.

Appalling story and a disgrace to the NHS. New Mum separated from baby by 30 miles, frozen roads, in pain and upset.

Dear Shocked Grandmother,

I would like to say that I am extremely sorry you have had reason to complain about the maternity care your grandaughter received whilst she was an inpatient having an elective caesarean section with us on the ward at Lincoln County Hospital.

However, I would also like to thank you for raising these concerns and assure you that issues raised are taken very seriously and will be addressed across the service.

Feedback is important to us so that we can we learn and make every effort to continuously improve our services.

Please once again accept my sincere apologies and thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Kind regards

Julie Bulteel
