"A lack of empathy from staff"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

Arriving at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, I asked at outpatients desk where the rheumatology department was, mentioning that I could not walk very far due to my condition.

A young man on the desk informed me that it really wasn't very far, and that I should take this corridor then that and follow the signs directing people to the department. I did as asked and found pretty soon that it was actually very far to go and as I had an appointment I had no option but to struggle on.

By the time I got there after half a dozen stops to rest, with only one area for seats, I was in considerable pain, and very upset at what appeared to be a total lack of empathy or understanding for my condition.

Naturally I cannot tar everyone with the same brush at Q.E. but sadly, every time I have had occasion to be at Q.E. I have left with a bad taste in the mouth concerning staff attitude at some level of involvement.

Consequently I have told my GP not to send me to this hospital ever again if it at all possible.
