"Appauling treatment of a frail old man."

About: West Cumberland Hospital

What I liked

Nothing.

What could be improved

My father who is 77 had a road accident and was taken to A & E were he was checked over and released. The hospital said he had no major trauma. The following day he had to be readmitted and it was found he had a punched lung and a ruptured kidney. The hospital did not apologise for having discharged him with these injuries. He has been in hospital for 3 days now and yesterday he fell while going to the bathroom the nurse refused to lift him up or assist him as it was against health and safety policy! she gave him verbal instruction on how to get back up, bearing in mine he has a drip (pain conrol- morphine) and a chest drain.

Anything else?

We are going to formally complain to the NHS as this treatment is inhumane and unacceptable and we would not recommend this hospital to anyone and would suggest you go to Carlisle instead.
