I cannot say enough about how great my experience was at the birth centre at NMGH. The facilities and every single member of staff I encountered were amazing, and I would recommend it to others in a heartbeat.
The midwives went out of their way to accommodate and support us. I had a natural delivery using the birth pool, which was bigger than I had expected. The room was great - spacious with a private bathroom, double bed, rocking chair, birth ball, plus lots of other comforts - like little LED candles! The midwives and student midwives who were with us throughout the birth (there was one shift change) were lovely. One student midwife came and visited me on the postnatal ward the next day to see how I had gotten on - which was lovely.
Although most of my labour progressed without incident, the last 15 minutes or so became stressful as my son's shoulder became stuck. Before I knew it, the room was full of extra staff to make sure that he was delivered safely, and given a full check up. All was well and I was impressed by how fast everything was sorted, I hardly knew anything had happened.
Due to the final events I needed a short stay on the postnatal ward - this as well was great. The nurses on the ward were warm and helpful, and I was regularly seen to make sure everything was OK with me and my son.
All in all my experience was wonderful, and the biggest reason for this was the amazing staff both at the birth centre and wards.
"Great experience at birth centre"
