"Women's is by far the worst place to have a baby"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital / Maternity care

I went in for a ctg due to reduced movements then after waiting 4 hours was told I will be induced that night! I was 37 weeks the consultant told me it was important they induce me straight away! So I was induced that night after spending 6 Very horrible days and 5 horrible nights on the induction unit.. yes 6 days! When they had shown so much urgency to begin with I was taken to the delivery suit where I had 3 midwives trying to break my waters a very painful experience when You are only 1cm dialated. after all these attempts a dr had to come and break my waters. His bedside manner was disgusting and said "don't expect me to be gentle I just need to get those waters broken so expect a lot of pain"! I was a wreck after having contractions for 6 days and being ignored by staff on the unit I was exhausted and at the end of my tether. He broke my waters eventually but my labour did not progress 24 hrs hours later a consultant on her ward round came in and decided I need to have a c section instantly. I was rushed to theatre within minutes. After a very rough c sec my son was born and I was told I got lucky as he had cord wrapped around his next tightly twice! A year on an I am still not over this experience. I have tried to complain to PALS whom I have left many messages with but have not bothered calling me back. Worst experience of what should have been one of the best. Awful hospital that is poorly managed. The after care was shocking on the ward the midwives never respond to buzzers I had to ask to be discharged as I was not being given any help or support on the ward they had missed my meds twice and when I asked for pain relief no one came back to give me any. After waiting hours to be discharged I was discharged at 11pm! This experience will haunt me forever.

Thank you for getting in touch.

We are very sorry that your experience was not what you expected, and we didn’t live up to your expectations.

It certainly sounds a difficult time for you.

If you would like to come and meet the ward sister or matron from Delivery suite, to go through the issues with you, please contact our PALS team on 0121 335 8226
