"After care following operation."

About: Pilgrim Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I had to stay in after an operation that was meant to be key hole but ended up having to be opened up. I was taken from the day unit to a ward. I was then told after about 20mins, I needed to be moved again as I was on the wrong ward. 2 members of staff off the ward piled all my stuff on the bed and took me down to a different ward. They then basically dumped me in a bay and left. Leaving my bag coat and shoes on my bed along with my saline drip. They didn't pass me the call bell either. I waited an hour and a half before anyone came to see me and that was only because I had asked another patient on the ward to press their bell as I was in pain, had a very dry mouth and felt very sick. Someone came and took my belongings off my bed and put my drip up but didn't turn it on and it was another hour before anyone else came. The nurse then passed me my bell,   got me a jug of water and sorted my drip out. I was an emotional wreck after surgery as I hadn't got a clue why I had been opened up, why my surgery took so long and why I was in so much pain. I was very scared and felt completely on my own. It wasn't till the morning when a lovely nurse called Tracy came on duty that I started to feel a little less anxious.

Thank you for your response. Yes I understand that you need to move people and this was not the issue. My care over all was great on 1B. I think my emotions were heightened because of having general anaesthetic. I know the hospital was very busy and I know everyone works very hard. I would hate for the little things to cause any problems, like the call bell.
