"He felt as if it was home from home"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a carer),

My dad has M. N. D and attended Day Services at the Hospice since May last year we where recommend by one of the volunteers when we had attended a vintage tea afternoon and I am so glad we had a referral from the local doctor for my dad to attend day services. What a difference it made both to myself but more so my dad. The staff and volunteers have been so attentive to him and myself. He felt as if it was home from home and never stopped talking about his day at the hospice, his words where “I feel normal when I am there”.

He loved it at day service he now attends Well-being at the hospice on a Friday and enjoys this to but misses day services so much just a testament to how much he felt at home there. I cannot thank the staff and of course the volunteers enough for making his experience such a positive one and when the time comes I hope they are there when the time comes for him to need hospice care. Thank you again

Dear Lynnpinny

Thank you for taking the time to post on our service at Kilbryde Hospice. As Clinical Services Manager I'm heartened to hear patients express "I felt normal while I was there". I take comfort that the staff and volunteers have allayed any anxieties that your Dad might have had before attending. As a carer, I'm very pleased to hear that you felt supported by Kilbryde Hospice. Your needs as a carer are as important as your Dad's needs and we aim to support carers individually. I'm glad to hear that your Dad felt a difference while attending our Day Service. As you are aware we can only offer these services for a limited period of time but that is to ensure that the service is available to others like your Dad. I sincerely hope that your Dad benefits from attending the Wellbeing service and we hope to be able to support him again in the future if the need arises.

I will certainly pass your positive feedback onto the Day Services staff and volunteers.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Clinical Services Manager
