"Leeds crisis team... still waiting"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Crisis resolution

(as the patient),

I was very distressed a few nights ago, feeling suicidal and self harming. I am under the care of leeds mental health team for psychosis (schizophrenia) and depression.

I phoned the becklin centre, to speak to the crisis team and was told to contact their care line which I did- leaving a message. Over an hour later they hadnt contacted me so I phoned back and was basically told that they were busy.

Im still waiting for a call back days later.

Luckily for me I have some good friends who have been very supportive.

Dear HM

I am sorry that you have found it so difficult to get help and I hope that through your posting we can ensure that someone is able to visit you and agree a plan to help you. I appreciate that at times of crisis such frustration can be difficult to tolerate and is very distressing.

My name is Guy Brookes and I am Associate Medical Director for Adult Mental Health services provided by Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust.

I have contacted the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team but they are unable to identify your call and so cannot phone you back to arrange help.

It would be useful to have further details of who you phoned and when it was so that we can see how we missed calling you back. It also seems that it is important that someone is able to visit you so that they can agree what could be helpful as it seems that things are very difficult for you now.

Could I suggest that you contact your Care Co-ordinator or the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team so that we can arrange for someone to visit?

Alternatively, it might be preferable to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who could contact your Care Co-ordinator for you and will be able to help ensure that your concerns are heard and allow us to make things work more smoothly for you in the future. PALS can be contacted on freephone number 0800 052 5790, 0113 305 6620 or by e-mail to pals@leedspft.nhs.uk.

I am sorry that I am unable to give more specific advice but it is understandable that you do not want to share details on the posting. However, the PALS team can pass on any additional information to me if you wish.

I hope that this leads to a timely and satisfactory conclusion for you.

Guy Brookes
