Whilst visiting family in Preston I was rushed to Primary Care at 8pm on a Saturday evening with a breathing problem. Within 15 mins of arrival I was sent to the emergency department where I was treated by friendly, caring, professional staff who looked after me until I was moved to EDU. In spite of this being a very busy unit, I was shown the same level of care and attention as in the Emergency Dept. After 24 hours I was transferred to Ward 15. Once again I could not fault the nursing and care that I received. I feel I should also comment on the variety of excellent food that was provided.I have paid good money for food that came nowhere near the quality in the hospital.
I get very angry when I hear reports that our NHS is failing, implying that the care and standard of nursing is not up to scratch. Our NHS is working to a very high standard and is reaching this standard in spite of the number of people wanting its services. It cares for more patients than ever before and instead of implying that our NHS is failing it should be congratulated. It is care in the community that is failing people meaning those who are well enough to be discharged have to stay and take up a bed that could be used for others. There are also a number of people who attend A&E who could easily be treated by GP's or chemists.
If once this section of the community is found not to actually need hospital treatment, they should be charged. This will make them think twice the next time they decide they or their children should be given treatment in a hospital.
Thank you Royal Preston Hospital for being there when I needed you and for helping my recovery enabling me to return home to Scotland.
"Thank you to Primary Care , EDU and ward 15"
