"Inconsistency of service"

About: City Health Care Partnership CIC / Minor injuries units

(as a relative),

This morning I received a phone call informing me that my son-in-law had injured his hand. The initial report was that he had received a puncture wound to the side of his hand, the blood had squirted across the room and he was unable to steem the flow.

He was advised to elevate and apply direct pressure, whilst I travelled to him. On arrival his hand was wrapped in a blood stained towel, I decided to take him to the nearest Minor Injury Clinic (less than a mile away) only to find that it was closed. We then had to travel to the other side of the town to our second Minor Injury Clinic - this was, fortunately, open. The service was exemplary, the specialist nurse was superb.

Now my complaint is why was the first, nearest, clinic closed - If this injury had been as serious as I had first thought, we would have wasted precius time. Minor Injury Clinics should offer the same hours of service no matter where they are.

Many thanks for taking the time to place your posting on the Patient Opinion website. I am sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied when accessing the Freedom Minor Injury Unit recently and apologise for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused. However I am please that you were satisfied with the service you received from the Bransholme Minor Injuries. Our staff work hard to offer a professional and caring service which meets the needs of our local community and it is good to hear that your experience of this service has been so positive.

The opening hours of the two Minor Injury Units in Hull are determined by the NHS Hull Commissioners and both units expanded their opening hours in June 2010, based on the respective units meeting the demand the units were experiencing. The Bransholme Minor Injury Unit is currently open Monday to Friday 09:00 am to 20:00 pm and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 09:00 am to 17:00 pm. The Freedom Minor Injury Unit is currently open Monday to Friday 09:00 am to 17:00 pm (excluding Bank Holidays). However we continue to monitor the activity in both units very closely, and work with NHS Hull to ensure that the units meet with the needs of the local communities.

Your opinion and comments have been passed on to the staff within the Bransholme Minor Injury Service who will be pleased to receive such pleasant feedback regarding the care and treatment your son received.

We strive to continually improve our services and believe all feedback we receive is valuable, so thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback.
