(as the patient),

I was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with Gallstones. I was told at the hospital that all I needed to do was see my GP and I could choose a date to have them removed. I thought that this would be good as it would allow me to fit it in with the school holidays.

When I went to see my GP, he informed me that this was not the case. I received a letter from DART to book an appointment. When I rang them I was told that the appointment I was booking wasn’t to have them removed but instead for another consultation. It feels like it’s an additional step before anything gets done. Why is it not more straight forward?

Thank you for your feedback on your experience you have had when booking your appointment

Normally in your circumstances we believe that an appointment would be sent onto you after being seen at the hospital with the date to have your gallstones removed.

In order for me to look into this further please feel free to contact me at the Choose and Book Helpdesk on 01626 883888 between 09.00 and 5.00 Mon – Fri. I will then be able to contact your GP practice to investigate further.

I apologise that you felt that contacting DART was an additional step.

We ask GP’s to refer their patients through the DART Service to enable us to offer a choice of appointment at any of the local hospitals. This enables them to book an appointment that is convenient and suitable to them.
