As a senior nurse I am well aware of a patients right to confidentiality, and not to be judged.
I am absolutely livid this morning listening to a conversation between my daughter and the receptionist.
My daughters background ( im giving with her consent) is of hypothyroidism. She is currently doing a dissertation and on top of that has had a lot of personal issues to deal with.
I have persuaded my daughter to come to the Drs to get blood tests as she has missed some through anxiety she has recently developed ( i believe because she has nt been given her thyroxine as the receptionist last month that she needed bloods first before she could have her meds... she couldnt get in through anxiety so due to this she has had NO tablets!! She of course has to take some responsibilty but since when is a receptionist a trained triage nurse? Why does my daughter have to tell the receptionist what her medical problem is?? Again, is she a trained triage nurse?? NO she is not!!
My daughter is more worried about talking to the receptionist and being told like she did today ‘ well we ve been here before with you havent we ?’
I find disgusting!!!!!
As a trained professional
I am appauled this practice is happening in a surgery. My daughter will be changing GP practices and i will be taking this further.
