"Painful C colonoscopy"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I Had a colonoscopy procedure a few days ago and I cannot praise the nurses and the surgeon high enough. They were freindly, informative and tried to put a very nervous patient at ease. However the experience was extremely painful and although I had sedation (3mg of midazapan) and was given extra painkiller it was still quite traumatic.   Years ago I had an endoscopy and had sedation and was asleep but still co-operative and it was a much better experience. I wasn't offered extra sedation and found the whole process very painful. I'm not a softy to where pain is concerned I've had a couple of heart attacks and other painful conditions and this would have to be the worst. I will avoid going through this process again at all costs. I understand that they are busy and it's better for the patient to only be there for a short time and I am all for that but please for people who find the colonoscopy so very painful can you not offer extra sedation where necessary?

Thank you so much for your response.I appreciate that you took time to read and respond to my message. I really don't feel the need to take things further as I said the doctor and nurses were lovely.I just wanted to make the staff aware that some people, as I did may find the colonoscopy experience more painful than others and that maybe heavier sedation may be needed by these people. I may need a repeat colonoscopy but won't agree to have it unless the sedation is heavier as I found the whole process quite traumatic.Thank you once again for your response
