I Had a colonoscopy procedure a few days ago and I cannot praise the nurses and the surgeon high enough. They were freindly, informative and tried to put a very nervous patient at ease. However the experience was extremely painful and although I had sedation (3mg of midazapan) and was given extra painkiller it was still quite traumatic. Years ago I had an endoscopy and had sedation and was asleep but still co-operative and it was a much better experience. I wasn't offered extra sedation and found the whole process very painful. I'm not a softy to where pain is concerned I've had a couple of heart attacks and other painful conditions and this would have to be the worst. I will avoid going through this process again at all costs. I understand that they are busy and it's better for the patient to only be there for a short time and I am all for that but please for people who find the colonoscopy so very painful can you not offer extra sedation where necessary?
