"Unhelpful experience with crisis service"

About: Somerset NHS Foundation Trust / Adult community mental health

(as a relative),

I am writing on behalf of my relative who had recently had a bad experience within Community Mental Health Services while having been found suicidal by police about to take their own life. After been taken to a place of safety by the police, they called the crisis care who when eventually turned up after many hours we felt they were almost blaming my relative for having an illness leaving my relative feeling so much more worse.

We thought the attitudes of certain professionals that day were well below the standards of what they should of been leaving the patient feeling even more hopeless and unable to trust them in the future. When we contacted them to make a complaint the member of staff we spoke to said that staff morale was low and they were trying to improve their services but this did not make up for the way we were treated.

Hello Hula,

I'm sorry to read about your poor experience. I will pass your story to our Crisis Service manager. We always want to learn from patient's poor experiences (and relatives') so if you did want to make a formal complaint (if you haven't already), you can drop a line to pals@sompar.nhs.uk.

Thank you for sharing your story.

LUCY
