"Disappointing consultation"

About: New Cross Hospital / Dermatology

I attended an appointment in the Dermatology Department on 08.02.18 and came away feeling extremely dissatisfied with the treatment I received there.

I went into my consultation with the doctor after a wait of approximately 15 minutes; the nurse accompanying the doctor mentioned that they were "short-staffed". The doctor did not greet me in any way and never made eye contact with me. After my examination, it was decided that I would need a punch biopsy, this was explained by the nurse.

I then proceeded to wait for three hours in the main waiting room while other people came and went ( clearly having had biopsies themselves). It was not explained to why the wait was so long.

During my biopsy treatment again the doctor did not speak to me, they performed the biopsy and attempted to sew the wound. This wasn't successful first time round as the wound was bleeding a lot and clearly not closed properly. The nurse pointed this out to the doctor and the process was repeated without a word of apology or explanation. I was made to feel like a nuisance or an inconvenience and on leaving , the consultant didn't even say goodbye when I said "thank you".

There was a total lack of manners and empathy from someone who deals with the public on a daily basis and I was left feeling dismayed by my treatment. I have visited many other departments at New Cross and have only ever been treated with dignity and courtesy, this visit was far from that.
