"Excellent care"

About: Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Attended the unit for a colonoscopy.  For a start, I was amazed that appointments were offered for a Saturday.  As I work full-time, I didn't need to take time of work, which was great.  All care professionals I saw were extremely friendly, reassuring and helpful.  Not sure why everybody was seen by two people before the procedure (one filling in form and taking blood pressure, the other inserting venflon and checking consent), but presumably this made best use of student nurse.  There was quite a long wait between the various steps as a result.

Very impressed that one of the nurses moved everybody to the recovery area, because the waiting room was so warm.  Very considerate.

The consultant surgeon and nurses involved in the procedure could not have been more professional.  I felt really well looked after.  Not the most dignified procedure, but the calm manner down-to-earth communication really put me at ease.  Everything was explained in a way I could understand and the results later repeated by the nurse in the recovery area, to ensure that I had understood everything.

Recovery area staff were brilliant.  Toast and tea arrived within a couple of minutes of me getting there and my friend called to pick me up.  Everything I could have hoped for.

Thanks for such excellent care.

Dear Thelma1

Thank you so much for the lovely comments you posted on Care Opinion following your Endoscopy procedure at the Victoria Hospital.

It is reassuring to hear that you found all the staff to be professional with a caring manner, and able to put you at ease throughout your procedure. I will forward your post to the staff, who will be delighted to receive such nice feedback.

Your right, we were making good use of our student nurse! They are not trained to cannulate or obtain consent, hence two nurses being present during your admission process.

And I agree, the tea and toast is the best part and always gratefully received!

Kind regards

Sandra
