"A&E totally lacks care"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital / Accident and emergency

My 91 year old terminally ill mother was taken to A&E by ambulance, left in a corridor for hours, no respect, no dignity, no care. A doctor initially diagnosed a tummy bug (she has stomach cancer). Later told she would be admitted for a blood transfussion then 30 minutes later told the ward had refused admission and therefore discharged. The care shown by A&E staff was totally disgraceful, treated like a commodity and not a person that is terminally ill.

Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience at the A&E Department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, although I am very sorry to hear of the difficulties you encountered with lack of respect, dignity and care for your mother. I will share this feedback with the A&E Manager and Matron who I know will be very sorry to hear of the problems you encountered. Please accept our apologies for the upset this caused, at what was already a very difficult time. If you would like us to look into your concerns in more detail, please contact our PALS team on 01743 261691 so that we can help address these concerns.

Thank you

Kind Regards

Patient Experience Team
