I am in my late thirties and I’ve been trying to get help for complex childhood trauma from this trust for five years. During this time I have received various misdiagnoses that ignore my actual symptoms (PTSD) and my childhood history. The diagnoses are often conceptually at odds ie ASD and BPD or narcissism and agrophobia/social phobia/low self esteem.
I have been flat out refused trauma therphy because one dr says I’m autistic, yet another disagrees. I’ve attempted suicide multiple times, the crisis team are often ignorant and crude, “your still alive so you can’t be that bad” - the teams all seem to lack basic understanding about the deleterious ways complex childhood trauma effects someone developmentally and how complex presentation in adults can be. You can not simply overcome severe trauma alone.
Refusing to offer appropriate support for complex trauma is morally wrong, people can and do recover with psychological therapies.
This trust seems to hope that people with these needs will just disappear if they ignore them long enough. Make no mistake, if they do, it is not due to self recovery!
