I had been seeing a GP at St. Ronans Health Centre and was then referred on to a specialist at the BGH. The specialist at the hospital started me on medication and wrote to my GP surgery at the beginning of January to ask for the medication to be added to my repeat prescription list. When I requested medication mid-February I had a call from receptionist to say that the GP wouldn’t prescribe the medication as there were contra-indications with other medication I was on. Couldn’t talk to a dr there and then and there weren’t any appointments until the following week. Requested a call back from a GP which I received two days later (as arranged). This GP didn’t know anything about the problem and could see the information on the computer and didn’t have an issue in adding the medication to my repeat.
In the meantime I had managed to contact specialist at hospital and collected a prescription from them in the worry I wouldn’t get any from the GP.
I don’t have a problem with GPs pointing out possible troubles etc - more annoyed at why the GP surgery hadn’t been in touch prior to my request to tell me about a problem. Especially when they were asked to add it to my repeat. Also, why the GP that called me back was happy enough and didn’t know why another GP had refused to prescribe.
