"I could never get parked in the patient area"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital

(as a service user),

I have attended Golden Jubilee several times over the past 2 years. I have always had difficulty in parking my car and in my previous visit in an afternoon in December 2017 was parked as far from the hospital as possible. I had always  had appointments in the late morning/ afternoon and wondered why I could never get parked in the patient area. Now I know. When I turned up for a 9am appointment last week I managed to park in the patient area without difficulty. As I was parking, 3 other cars parked in the same patient area. All the occupants got out of the cars and walked into the staff entrance. Please ensure that the staff do not use the patient car park area.

Dear pegasusnn59

Thank you for raising your concerns about car parking. We are aware that there can be days where car parking can be difficult for patients and that is why we are actively looking at ways we can improve this. The Golden Jubilee now has a car parking group set up and have just undertaken a staff and patient travel survey. The overall aim is to ensure sustainable changes that will improve access to our site for all.

Both Golden Jubilee and NHS24 staff should not park in the designated public and patient spaces and our security team check throughout the day to make sure this does not occur. However, we will reinforce this using our internal communication channels to ensure this does not happen in the future.

Hopefully, in the near future, you will be able to experience an improvement in car parking. In the meantime, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused during your visit.

Kind regards

Paula McPhail

Paula,

Thanks for your reply.

I am pleased to hear that you will reinforce the message that the small area set aside for patients should be respected since being unable to park close to the hospital can lead to failure to meet appointment times and to substantial discomfort trying to walk over 200 metres from the far end of the car park.

It's a good hospital and the patient experience shouldn't be spoiled by something like this.
