I thought I had the flu coupled with a chronic pain in my ankle.
I went to my GP who said I needed to be in hospital and called an ambulance. The paramedics who attended were professional, kind and reassuring.
A&E was incredibly busy - this was 27th December.
When my blood test results came in it was clear there was a major problem.
The orthopaedic surgical team were called and I was taken to theatre.
I was diagnosed with necrotising fasciitis.
I had four operations - three to deal with the infection and the fourth was to have a skin graft.
I spent 8 days in intensive care and a further two weeks on wards F3 and F4.
I cannot praise highly enough all the staff who cared for me during this time, and that's everyone from the lovely man who brought round the tea trolley in the morning, to the cleaners, healthcare assistants, nurses, physio teams, anaesthetists, plastic surgery team and orthopaedic surgery team.
I know that I am lucky to be alive and that is quite simply down to the team at WSH. Thankyou.
