"I would rather be ill in an eastern..."

What I liked

Some of the nursing staff who I felt sorry for working within a dysfunctional system

What could be improved

After a 3 month period in Hospital both Hereford ITU and Leominster I am left in absolute horror at the conditions and treatment of both patients and relatives. During my time in Leominster Community Hospital ( 2 months ) I was ill informed and virtually neglected by the senior medical staff. The physiotherapy was at least random. I was discharged, unable to walk or get to the bathroom unaided. I am on oxygen in the home 24 hours a day. There was no plan for any sort of after care within the home put in place nor was this discussed on my discharge. My son who is my soul carer is unable to leave the house due to my poor health and inability to cope on my own. Living in a remote area, we ran out of food. I was left having to contact the Red Cross in an emergency to buy me some toilet rolls and sanitary towels having not fully been clear of a stomach virus that was caught during my time in the hospital. I have since contacted the social services, the NHS and Herefordshire link to ensure this is not allowed to happen to anyone else. They have all have informed me that this is totally wrong of the hospital not to have put any sort of plan into motion prior to my discharge. My cupboards will soon be empty again and god knows what will become of me.

Anything else?

Hearing a patient, the mother of one of the doctors allocated to this hospital, in tears wishing she was dead rather than being there says it all really. I do not blame any of the nursing staff in any way whatsoever. They are doing all they can in a dysfunctional organisation.
