"Denied a Chaperone"

About: Skegness Hospital

The centre was having some building work done and said to me that my grandma could not come with me into having my examinations. I am a very nervous patient and therefore always take a family member with me. After reading the signs they have dotted around about Chaperones before examinations, they repeatedly ignored me and did the examinations without her. One of my examinations included me having to remove my shirt. It was only until I burst into tears and started panicking they allowed her to come into the room.

Building works or not, I saw plenty of children and their parents go into the room together, just because I am an adult does not mean I do not require assitance. Very unimpressed.

May I first of all sincerely apologise for the delay in posting this response and thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

LCHS does have a Chaperone Policy and I am sorry that on this occasion you were denied the opportunity of having your relative with you during your consultation.

I do hope that this hasn't deterred you from using this service should you need to as having a chaperone with you should not routinely be denied. As a result of your feedback, staff will be asked to revisit the policy to ensure they are familiar with its contents.
