"Really great. Lovely dentists, thorough..."

About: Guy's Hospital

What I liked

The people who dealt with me were really lovely - I saw a few dentists and they were all really nice and professional. One of the dentists talked me through my x-ray and explained that I needed some urgent work done. She was very discreet despite the open plan of the clinic area and even though she was telling me something relatively scary she was very careful to make sure she didn't make me feel stressed about it. She asked if I had anxiety about visiting the dentist and offered to get me a list of recommended local dentists. Having been terrified of the dentist for years I registered with a normal dentist the minute I got home and made an appointment asap because the dentist at Guy's managed to make me understand what was going on without making me frightened about it.

What could be improved

If you arrive after 9am at the walk-in clinic you probably won't be seen. I arrived at 9:30am and waited in the reception for over an hour until my number came up and then I was told I would have to come back tomorrow as they didn't have space for me.

Unfortunately I couldn't have my wisdom teeth out that day as the students who normally do it were on their holidays - means I have to take a third day off work when they send my appointment through.

Very little information on the website - had to get information about the walk-in clinic from people who have written about their experiences online.

Anything else?

The walk-in clinic opens at 8am, even though the phones don't come on until 8:30am so if you definitely want to be seen you need to be there at 8am.

Bring a book to read or you'll have to watch daytime tv in the waiting room!
