"Midwife led birthing suite - birthing pool"

About: Basildon University Hospital / Maternity

Had my son here in October 2016. Staff were absolutely fantastic, supported me all the way through and gave all the necessary checks but left me to get on with it as I wanted without feeling like I was being interfered with too much.

Used the birthing pool which was amazing and using this didn’t need any other pain relief other than gas and air. Had to stay in due to blood loss and care for me and baby, support with breastfeeding was brilliant, absolutely couldn’t have asked for any more.

We are pleased that your experience of care in the maternity unit at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was a good one. We will forward on your kind words to the midwives. Please remember that any woman who has given birth at Basildon University Hospital, no matter how long ago, is able to self-refer to our ‘birth afterthoughts service’. Mums can contact the service to talk through their birth experience, ask general questions, or try to piece together those hazy hours spent in labour that seem impossible to recall. Contact this service by calling 01268 524900 Ext 3458 or emailing birthafterthoughts@btuh.nhs.uk.

Thank you for your feedback.
