"Outpatients visit"

About: Mount Vernon Hospital Site / Trauma and orthopaedics

I checked in for a 10.30 appt at 10.15. At 10.30 I was asked to go for an X-Ray. The man who gave me the pink slip and showed me the way absolutely reeked of body odour! It was so bad I was pleased he left me at the end of the corridor. I was ignored by the receptionist at X-Ray . When she finally acknowledged me there was no greeting just held out her hand for the slip. She had a mouthful of food and when she told me to sit and wait crumbs fell out of her mouth. While waiting I overheard her on the phone and when I looked she still had a mouthful of food! To my mind this is not acceptable for front line staff. On my return to the clinic reception I found the receptionist to be unfriendly. Again no greeting and no smile. When it was my turn to be seen I was horrified that the man from before came into the consulting room and sat down, (presumably as chaperone) but his body odour was still very apparent. Then another man walked in with a folder in his hand. I felt concerned that there was no respect for me with my consultation . The consultant seemed unperturbed by the interruptions. On returning to reception to make an appointment again no smile just very matter of fact approach.

I really feel there are some training issues that need addressing with reception staff. They are the first person to be seen by patients who should be treated with courtesy and respect.

As indicated above the rest of my experience at the hospital was fine
