My husband was scheduled for the gastric sleeve operation in January 2018. Two weeks before the operation he had to do a liver cleansing diet which meant eating only six small yoghurts a day and a litre of skimmed milk a day. we arrived at 7. 30 am and my husband was gowned, stockinged and canulated ready.
After four hours he was told the operation was cancelled. A date was given for a month later and he had to do the two week liver cleanse again. We arrived and again he was prepared for surgery. After six hours we were told the operation was cancelled.
As well as the distress of going through the rigorous liver cleanse there is the mental distress of building yourself up to the thought of surgery there are also financial concerns with missing work and having to travel to have all the blood tests done again and the cost of parking.
The nurses and doctors were very sympathetic, but my husband cannot be expected to keep being put through these fasts and then cancellations.
"Cancellation of gastric sleeve surgery two months running"
