"Worried my husband is not safe in this hospital"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

(as a relative),

My husband has dementia caused by herpetic encephalopathy.

He has been admitted to Wigan Lowton ward by a&e at the request of his GP. He also has mental health problems. He walked out of the ward in slippers and PJ's on a cold Feb day today. No one stopped him. He was found and returned and the ward manager asked me if I could go all day and sit with him today.

I can't get there due to other family reasons. I look after him with no help at home and he has never escaped. I'm a retired nurse of 40 years myself.

I do know they have dementia friendship wards that are locked by a code. I feel angry and upset that my husband is not safe at this hospital.

This is not the first incident with this hospital. In May he was sent home with his chest drain still in situ and no medication.
