Following a bad bout of flu, my teenage daughter recently visited A&E at around 9.30pm with severe pain in her ribs accompanied by swelling, as a result of a very painful cough.
She also has mild asthma.
Her GP was unable to see her earlier in the day and the NHS telephone helpline advised her to visit A&E.
During her visit she was made to feel like she was being stupid and wasting time.
Her pain was excruciating and she was advised that there was nothing serious and to go home and take pain killers.
Despite being in agony not once was she offered any type of anti inflammatory pain relief, ie ibuprofen.
She left A&E around 3.30am the following morning, in pain and unable to purchase any pain relief due to the time of day.
She ended up phoning me at 4.00am, frightened and in severe pain.
Quite frankly I find this level of care absolutely shocking.
It makes me fearful for the future of our wonderful NHS if this is the level of care being offered today.
"Visit to A&E - Never Again!"
