"Communication about care needs"

About: Grantham & District Hospital

(as the patient),

So, I have fluid on the brain (hydrocephalus) I have a shunt which is tubing that drains the fluid off my brain and a pump it’s connected to. I went to Grantham hospital as I was told by Nottingham hospital to go there as it’s my nearest hospital.

I was seen promptly by a lovely nurse and then a doctor came in and had no idea about the condition and even googled what could be wrong with me!

They then said they will scan me to which I said I wasn’t sure I can be outside of Nottingham as my shunt has a chip that is set to certain settings to help my condition and scans can reset it! So I told them to contact Nottingham to double check. They then told me they haven’t the time to contact them! So I explained more I don’t think I can be scanned!

So they called them reluctantly and I can be in a CT scan but no other scan unless specialist doctor is there. After all this they told me not to ever ask a doctor to contact another for advice as it’s a waste of time .. this is my life we are discussing if I had been scanned without specialist doctors in another scan it could reset my shunt and I’ll over drain n die!

They were telling me not to go to that hospital with my problem! I found this very very unprofessional!
