I’m a first timer and this relates to my visit on Friday 9th of Feb 2018. On arrival at the Day Care Surgery at 7.20am was briefly greeted with a courteous receptionist who let me through to the waiting area behind her.
After a brief wait which felt like no time at all, I was lead through to the pre operation area and noticed ‘clean area’ notices stuck to area’s which gave me confidence areas are kept clean at all times. Then a first pre operation assessment questionnaire taken by a friendly and professional member of staff, who answered all my questions to my satisfaction as well and explaining the next procedures on getting ready for the operation.
The next visit from the anaesthetist who assessed me and was extremely friendly and thorough. I also managed to relax a little more after her explanation of what was going to happen to me from her aspect. I got a visit from the anaesthetist assistant next, who went through some more assessment questions and she too was courteous and thorough.
I was expecting to wait for my operation but nope was greeted by the consultant’s assistant next joined by the consultant and was in straight away, no messing about here. A few questions more and wheeled on through to theatre.
A quick hello from the anaesthetist and made comfortable, a little chick chat and good night.
As you can imagine I have no idea what went on in theatre, the next thing is recovery. As I came back round about 10.20am ish, I had a friendly, polite member of staff assuring me all is ok and I’ll soon be back to normal and I was.
Wheeled back to the pre operation assessment area for observation, a glass of water and soft sandwich, soon to be sent home.
All in all my visit was done efficiently, courteously and with respect. The only small criticism I have is, I would of liked the consultant, assistant or anybody to let me know what was done in theatre. Was the whole lump removed as he said he would have done (if possible) or just a biopsy/sample taken. I do appreciate the NHS has pressures on time/money but anyone could of explained to me what was done. Guess I’ll know in 2 to 3 weeks.
As for my treatment at the Day Care Surgery, first class.
