What I liked
The very high calibre of surgeon
What could be improved
The childish behaviour of staff.clinical and domestic, they had one big good time, singing etc. I for one was in need of peace and quiet, it never happened.I was rebuked by a nurse who said I shouldn't use my morphine all the time, in front of my visitors, even though it is impossible to use too much. I guess she was inconvenienced in having something medical to do, by changing it.but I was in agony .the food and the way it was served was deplorable.I asked for the roll which was supposed to come with my soup, and I over heard the orderly mimicking my voice, and the other saying, derrogative remarks about me. The food is inedible, even the sandwiches. I unfortunately will require several further surgeries in the near future and will be much more vocal at the time and braver in letting staff know of their short comings.after the initial 24hrs post surgery, I was literally left to get on with it. No offers of help at all in toilet visits washing showering etc,how I survived I do not know.I was sleep deprived for the 4 nights I was in,discharge day was painfully slow, with a 7hr wait for a prescription! I was tired, in pain, hungry and no way of changing it whilst waiting for the medicine. I could not wait to leave the place. The staff need to be retrained in the job description they are paid for.have more respect for patients, and calm down.concentrate on nursing and caring and less on having a ball and enjoying themselves.I was surprised to find the worst culprits were the older nurses and not the younger newer qualified as you might expect.I still feel bitter at the experience of my stay on south crofty.please god it has improved by my next stay.
Anything else?
Any future in patients to Truro hospital I strongly recommend that you can get someone to bring you in some food during your stay.I will be bringing in my own coffee, biscuits, marmite, sauce salt apart from the obvious juice and fruit.even pot noodles are preferable to the food served.! That's saying something!
