"Surgery aftercare"

About: Croydon NHS Walk-in centre Croydon University Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

After surgery to remove my little right toe, the surgeon didn’t come to see me to see if the operation was a success. I was released from hospital with nothing but paracetamol. I also had to hop out of outpatients as I wasn’t provided with any crutches.

Two weeks after the operation I went to get my stitches taken out at MayDay Hospital which was a very painful event with the nurse taking no care and attention as two days later after having continuous severe pain I realised that there were still stitches in the wound and now a heavy infection had set in.

I took it upon myself to get in touch with NHS 111 who advised I attend a walk in centre immediately. The nurse at the walk in centre explained that due to lack of after care and the remaining stitches that were left in the infection had worsened; they prescribed heavy antibiotics and cleaned the wound after having taken out the said stitches.

I attended Dr Appointments to change dressing and monitor infection which has been ongoing for a number of weeks. Six weeks later I noticed that another stitch has been left in and is now protruding from the wound...
