"Unpleasant experience"

About: NHS Lothian / South East Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as a service user),

Hello

I have just returned from an unpleasant experience at breast screening in Forth Valley.

Due to a a mix up with venues. (previously Asda) I turned up at wrong place. When I arrived at screening harassed and anxious one of the mammographers was very abrupt, unsympathetic and rude. Was given no pleasantries at all. I felt like a farm animal.

The other member of staff was much more pleasant but I spent the whole process upset.

NHS are encouraging us to go for screenings.

Can I suggest some training in dealing with anxious women to put them at ease and not put them off.

Hopefully all was well and I have 3-4years to recover from my ordeal today. Very unpleasant.

Dear Dorajean,

I am very sorry to read of your experience when attending the breast screening service. I understand that this is an anxious time for patients, and the upset that this has now caused you. Your experience is certainly not the service we strive to achieve.

I have shared your feedback with the Senior Management of this service area. We would be grateful if you could please get in touch with our Patient Experience Team and we can look into this matter further for you.

Email: feedback@nhslothian Tel: 0131 536 3370

Again, my sincere apologies that this has been your experience. Thank you very much for taking the time to provide this feedback.

Kind regards,

Pamela

Thank you for taking the time to listen and reply. It's good to know our experiences are taken seriously. Hopefully it will improve what should be a valuable service. Although being aware of the time constraints in providing breast screening. It doesn't take much to be pleasant and encouraging. Many women find this procedure embarrassing, awkward, painful and are anxious about the results.

Thank you
