I had to go to A&E on Wednesday evening about 8:30 pm 10 January because of severe pain in my groin. From arrival I was seen as quickly as possible, by a succession of very capable and caring staff members. Each person I saw was pleasant and caring, obviously trying to do their best to decipher my symptoms and relieve the pain. So within 2 hours of arriving, or just over, I has been seen by a the Triage nurse, then Triage Doctor, then a Urologist. Within 3 hours I had been examined, had ultrasound and been advised surgery was needed, by just after midnight I was entering the Operating Theatre for an emergency operation, I was in Recovery by 2 am and Hopkins ward by 3 am. The Anesthetist and her team and the theatre staff were kindness itself and were very reassuring.
The Nurses and Nursing assistants in Hopkins Ward were brilliant, very caring and attentive. Got me back on my feet and walking within a couple of hours and I was seen by both the Anesthetist and the Urologist who had been there for the operation. These guys had put in a heck of a shift. The same Urologist was still on duty to discharge me late in the afternoon.
So often we see the press, politicians and disgruntled patients castigating the NHS and the RBH. Believe me I have no bad feeling about the place and the superb people who work there. They say you get what you pay for, nonsense, with the NHS and RBH you get much more than you pay for.
