I went for a colonoscopy on February 9th 2018 and I was extremely nervous. I was also very tired and hungry, after having to fast, but the staff really did make me feel so much better. I was shown to a private room with my own toilet and a lovely nurse came to confirm my details and fit my canula. She engaged in lots of pleasant conversation and put me at ease by telling me about her experience with the procedure. I was then given some pretty dignified underwear and 2 robes to ensure I was completely comfortable. I was then led to a room to meet the consultant nurse and his team who would be doing the procedure. He answered all my questions brilliantly and made me feel more relaxed. The procedure itself was a bit uncomfortable but I got the impression that I have am awkward digestive system and that this was uncommon. The nurse and his assistant tried several positions to make me feel more comfortable, gave me anaesthetic and gas and air but most importantly just spoke to me. They tried to take my mind off it and relax me. His assistant even stroked my arm.
I could honestly ramble on forever about their excellent standard of care but I think I'll leave it there. If I ever need a colonscopy again I certainly won't be so worried about it.
