I felt like the ward was more like a prison than a hospital. There some excellent members of nursing staff, particularly a couple of the younger nurses and also many of the nursing aides.
However, there were plenty more that I came into contact with who I thought were lazy and completely unprofessional.
Patient confidentiality was also very unprofessional and I heard staff talking about patients who had been previously attended the hospital, in a very disparaging manner.
I felt there was also a degree of bullying going on from some staff members, including shouting at patients as well as manhandling patients with unreasonable force. I do realise that given the nature of some of the patients and their particular illnesses, that some force was required but it did seem to be meted out rather exuberantly. There was one nurse who that I felt would be more in place in a prison or concentration camp.
As I said there were some excellent nurses there who tried their best to make life easier and I felt comfortable talking to them, however it was spoiled by some staff members who clearly didn't want to be there.
On the whole it was a crashing bore with the only entertainment being board gamesand colouring in books.
Anyway, the one thing it did teach me was to keep my mouth shut in future in the hope that I never have to return.
